Real Companhia Velha – Douro Evel Red Blend (2017)

Coming from the oldest and most emblematic wine company in Portugal, the Evel does not disappoint.

Tasting Notes

Real Companhia Velha is the oldest and most emblematic wine company in Portugal. For over 260 years, they have had uninterrupted activity in the service of Port Wine. Real Companhia strives to preserve and honour the tradition of some of the best Quintas in the Douro. That being said, Real Companhia Velha continues to invest in the future of their vineyards by modernization and experimentation.

The Evel Tinto is produced from vines planted at Quinta das Carvalhas, Quinta dos Aciprestes and Quinta de Cidro. Although the first two locations benefit from a warm climate where wines are structured and elegant while the latter benefits from a cool climate which permits the slow maturation of grapes. This wine was decanted for an hour. A rich ruby colour accompanied by a nose of clove, cigar box, earthiness and eucalyptus. On the palate, smooth tannins that balanced nicely with the minerality. Notes of dark fruit and spice mingling with the earthiness. Rich and intense, this is exactly what you would expect with this wine after the years that have passed. Medium finish that warms you up. Best suited with a meal such as steak, lamb or pork.
